An exciting match was played between Warriors and Cape Cobras in the 9th match of CSA T20 Challenge 2021 on Tuesday (February 23) afternoon at Kingsmead Cricket Ground (Durban). Cape Cobras won by 24 runs against their opponent Warriors.
Warriors captain Sinethemba Qeshile won the toss and elected to bowl, sending Cape Cobras to bat first.
Cobras captain Tony de Zorzi lost his wicket in the first over falling in the lbw trap Anrich Nortje. But the Cobras’ batsmen focused on increasing the pace of the run without caring about their wickets. As a result, they lost one wicket in six overs and picked up 51 runs. The 71-run stand in the third wicket continued to lead them to a big score. Opener Zubair Hamza picked up his fifty off 41 balls. When he returned scoring individual 57 runs, George Linde came on the wicket. In the end, Cobras lost five wickets and threw a huge target of 182 runs with courtesy of his stormy innings of 48 runs from 20 balls. Anrich Nortje (2-30, 4 overs) was the highest wicket-taker for the Warriors.
The Warriors stumbled at the beginning to chase down the big total. They continued to lose wickets quickly in the aggressive bowling of the opponents. They lost three wickets for 47 runs at the end of five overs. The batsmen could not play defensively as the target was big. They had to lose wickets to increase the speed of the run wheel. Besides, they could not settle down to the wickets due to George Linde’s great bowling. So the Warriors’ innings stopped after losing all of their wickets scoring 157 runs. Marco Jansen (47) scored the highest run for the team. George Linde (4-25, 4 overs) was the highest wicket-taker for Cobras.
Cape Cobras won the fourth match after a third consecutive loss. They are in fourth place on the points table after winning this match. On the other hand, the Warriors have found a place at the bottom of the points table with the third defeat in a row.
