CSA T20 Challenge 2021 Match Highlights, Match 14: Clinical lions outplay the Cobras

At the Kingsmead (Durban), Lions and Cape Cobras faced off in the 14th match of the CSA T20 Challenge 2021 on Friday night, February 26. The Lions won by 7 wickets against their opponent Cape Cobras.

Cape Cobras captain Tony de Zorzi decided to bat after winning the toss and sent the Lions to bowl.

Spinner Bjorn Fortuin picked up the wicket of opener Tony de Zorzi in the first ball of the over at the starting of the innings. The Lions bowlers took 3 wickets giving away 33 runs at the end of 6 overs. Cobras fell out of the match by aggressive bowling of Bjorn Fortuin and Lutho Sipamla. Later, courtesy of an inning of 44 off 39 balls by Christiaan Jonker, they returned to the match but could not collect a big score. They lost 6 wickets in 20 overs and scored 144 runs. Corbin Bosch was also on the wicket as a worthy partner with Christiaan Jonker. He was unbeaten on 32 off 26 balls in the end. Bjorn Fortune (2-29, 4 overs) and Lutho Sipamla (2-27, 4 overs) took two wickets each for the Lions.

Batting for an easy target of 145, the Lions batsmen started to attack the Cobras’ bowlers from the very beginning. Opener Reeza Hendricks, along with skipper Temba Bavuma, put on an 84-run stand for the second wicket. This pair changed the fate of the match. Reeza Hendricks left the field scoring 75 runs off 59 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. In the end, the Lions reached the port of victory with 3 balls in hand, thanks to a stormy inning of 25 off 10 balls by Wiaan Mulder. Ziyaad Abrahams took the wicket for Cape Cobras (2-29, 3 overs)

The Lions have made it to second place in the points table after winning this match. On the other hand, Cape Cobras are fifth in the points table after losing.
