In the 13th match of the CSA T20 Challenge 2021, an exciting match between Warriors and Knights was played on Thursday (February 25) afternoon at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground (Durban). The Warriors won by 14 runs against their opponents the Knights.
The Knights captain Pite van Biljon decided to bowl after winning the toss and sent the Warriors to bat first.
JJ Smuts and Gihahn Cloete, two openers of the Warriors, got off to a good start coming to bat. They picked up 53 runs without losing a wicket in six overs of the power play. In the next over, Knights spinner Shaun von Berg came into the attack and took 2 wickets but could not stop the run wheel of the Warriors. The Warriors continued to move towards a respectable score even though they were losing wickets in quick succession. Due to this, they were able to score 157 runs losing eight wickets. Lesiba Ngoepe (41) scored the highest runs for the team. Mbulelo Budaza stood as the best bowler for the Knights (3-18, 4 overs)
Knights opener Patrick Kruger was run out in the first ball of the innings coming down to bat for 158 runs. Then at the end of six overs, they scored 49 runs without losing any more wickets. But the Knights batsmen felt the push from the next over. Losing one wicket for 49 runs, the team lost six wickets at the end of ten overs and scored 67 runs. They lost five wickets scoring 18 runs and lost the momentum of the match. Raynard van Tonder, on the other hand, was unable to win the match due to the lack of a suitable partner. He played an unbeaten inning of 81 off 57 balls. Where there were 6 fours and 3 sixes. Mthiwekhaya Nabe is the highest wicket-taker for Warriors (3-19, 4 overs)
The Warriors have climbed up to third place in the points table after winning this match. The Knights are at the bottom of the points table with their third consecutive defeat on the other hand.
