Cricket Highlights, 26 Nov: BAN vs PAK (1st Test – Day 1), IND vs NZ (1st Test – Day 2)

BAN vs PAK (1st Test – Day 1)

On the first day of the first Test match of the series yesterday, Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque decided to bat after winning the toss at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The Tigers are in a good position at the end of the first day thanks to the great century of wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das and the patient batting of veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim. They lost 4 wickets and picked up 253 runs.

Opener Saif Hassan (14) returned to the dressing room after falling victim to Shaheen Afridi scoring 19 runs. Another opener Shadman Islam could not survive on the wicket for long. Hasan Ali’s brilliant delivery fell him into the lbw trap and he was out for just 14 runs.

Then Mominul Haque came to the crease. But he too returned to the pavilion with a catch to the wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan in delivery of spinner Sajid Khan for just six runs. After that, Najmul Hossain Shanto (14) returned to the dressing room after falling victim to Faheem Ashraf within 2 runs. As a result, the Tigers lost four wickets for 49 runs.

From there Mushfiqur and Liton brought the team back to the match. These two batsmen made a pair of 204 runs for the fifth wicket partnership. In 10 fours and 1 six, Liton picked up his first test career century off 199 balls. At the end of the day, he is unbeaten on 113 runs. Mushfiqur finished the first day with an unbeaten 82 off 190 balls.

Emerging star cricketer Yasir Ali has made his debut as the 98th Test cricketer of Bangladesh due to the absence of Shakib Al Hasan in this match. Besides, Abdullah Shafique also got a Test cap for the Pakistan team.

IND vs NZ (1st Test – Day 2)

The Indian cricket team, which lost 4 wickets for 258 runs at the end of the first day, came to the field on the second day morning with Shreyas Iyer (75) and Ravindra Jadeja (50) at the crease. But in the great bowling of the Kiwi bowlers, the Men in Blues lost the last 6 wickets to add only 87 runs to the team score on the 2nd day.

Shreyas picked up a great century in his debut. In the end, he returned to the pavilion after playing a great inning of 105 runs off 171 balls as the seventh batsman for the team of 305 runs. Before that, Jadeja (50) and Wriddhiman Saha (1) also returned to the dressing room. Only Ravichandran Ashwin was able to put up some resistance after that. He scored 38 off 56 balls. Umesh Yadav remained unbeaten on 10 runs.

In the end, the Indians got all out for 345 in 111.1 overs. Tim Southee scalped 5 wickets for the Black Caps. Besides, Kyle Jamieson took 3 wickets and spinner Ajaz Patel took 2 wickets.

Kiwi openers Tom Latham and Will Young got off to a great start by batting in their first innings. After trailing India by 216 runs, they finished the second day with 129 runs in 57 overs in the opening partnership. Will Young (75*) and Tom Latham (50*) will start the third day’s play.
