Cricket Highlights, 26 Mar: IND vs ENG (2nd ODI), NZ vs BAN (3rd ODI)

The 2nd ODI between India & England and the 3rd ODI between Bangladesh & New Zealand rolled on the field yesterday. Let’s have a look to know about the exciting moments of the matches.

IND vs ENG (2nd ODI)

In the second ODI of the series in Pune, India lost to England by 6 wickets in the devastating batting of Johnny Bairstow and Ben Stokes. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, India lost 6 wickets and threw a huge challenging target of 337 runs towards England. KL Rahul played the highest-run innings for the team scoring 108 runs off 114 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Rishabh Pant (77), captain Virat Kohli (66), and Hardik Pandya (35) also played effective innings for the team. Reece Topley and Tom Curran took 2 wickets each for England.

Batting for this huge target, England scored 110 runs in 16.2 overs courtesy of the opening partnership. Later, when opener Jason Roy (55) returned to the dressing room, Ben Stokes came on the wicket and teamed up with Johnny Bairstow. The two batsmen put on 175 runs for the second wicket. Ben Stokes returned to the dressing room after playing a devastating inning of 99 off 52 balls smashing 4 fours and 10 sixes. His other teammate Johnny Bairstow played a great inning of 124 off 112 balls with 11 fours and 7 sixes to take the team closer to victory. In the end, Dawid Malan (16*) and Liam Livingstone (27*) gave the team their desired victory.

England won the match and level the series 1-1. The third and final match of the series will be played on March 28 at the same venue.

NZ vs BAN (3rd ODI)

In the third and final ODI of the series in Christchurch, New Zealand won by a huge margin of 164 runs against Bangladesh with a pair of centuries by Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Kiwis lost 2 wickets in 9 overs and scored 50 runs. Though Ross Taylor and Tom Latham returned one by one, Devon Conway continued to bat aggressively at the other end of the wicket. He was accompanied by another Kiwi batsman, Daryl Mitchell.

In the end, Devon Conway returned to the pavilion scoring 126 off 110 balls smashing 17 fours, but Daryl Mitchell remained unbeaten with 100 off 92 balls. New Zealand lost six wickets and picked up a big score of 318 runs in their great batting display.

Chasing this huge target, the Kiwi pacers’ aggressive bowling shattered Bangladesh’s batting line-up like a house of cards. Mahmudullah played the highest innings for the team, he scored an unbeaten 76 off 73 balls. James Neesham took 5 wickets, Matt Henry took 4 wickets, and Kyle Jamieson took 1 wicket for the hosts.

After winning the last match of the series, New Zealand won the three-match series 3-0. The two teams will meet in the first T20I match of the 3-match series on March 28 at the Seddon Park Stadium in Hamilton.
