Cricket Highlights, 24 Oct: ICC Men’s T20 World Cup (Match 15 & 16)

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Match 15 (Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh)

In the 15th match of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, Sri Lanka won by 5 wickets with 7 balls to spare against Bangladesh at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh batted first after losing the toss and scored 171 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Mohammad Naim top-scored for the team with 62 off 52 balls. Besides, Mushfiqur Rahim played an unbeaten inning of 57 off 37 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Lahiru Kumara, Chamika Karunaratne and Binura Fernando took one wicket each for the Lankans.

Sri Lanka got off to a great start after coming down to chase a challenging target of 172 runs. At the end of 8 overs, they lost only 1 wicket and picked up 71 runs. When Shakib came to bowl in the 9th over, he scalped 2 wickets and the Lankans were in danger with that. After that Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa took the team to the brink of victory by making 86 run-stand for the 5th wicket partnership.

Asalanka played a devastating inning of unbeaten 80 off 49 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes. Rajapaksa scored 53 runs off 31 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. In the end, Sri Lanka reached the target in 18.5 overs losing 5 wickets. Shakib Al Hasan and Nasum Ahmed took the maximum number of 2 wickets each for the Tigers.

After winning this match, Sri Lanka is in 2nd place on the points table of Group 1 in Super Twelve. On the other hand, Bangladesh is in the 5th position in the points table after losing.

 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Match 16 (India vs Pakistan)

In the second match of the day of the India-Pakistan high voltage match, arch-rivals Pakistan won by a huge margin of 10 wickets with 13 balls to spare against India at the Dubai International Stadium. After losing the toss, India batted first and scored 151 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

For India, skipper Virat Kohli hit five fours and one six scored the best 57 runs off 49 balls for the team. Besides, Rishabh Pant scored 39 off 30 balls and Ravindra Jadeja scored 13 off 13 balls. Shaheen Afridi took the highest number of 3 wickets for Pakistan. Hasan Ali took 2 wickets, and Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf took 1 wicket each.

Chasing the target of 152 runs, Pakistan reached the target in 17.5 overs without losing any wicket. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan hit an unbeaten 79 off 55 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. At the other end, the captain Babar Azam remained unbeaten scoring 68 runs off 52 balls in 6 fours and 2 sixes.

After winning this match, Pakistan is at the top of the points table of Group 2 in Super 12. On the other hand, India is at the bottom of the points table after the debacle.
