Cricket Highlights, 24 Jul: IRE vs SA (3rd T20I), WI vs AUS (2nd ODI)

 

The 3rd and final T20I of the 3-match series between South Africa and Ireland & the 2nd ODI of the 3-match series between West Indies and Australia rolled on the field yesterday and today respectively. Let’s have a glimpse at the article to know about the interesting happenings of the days’ games.

IRE vs SA (3rd T20I)

South Africa won the third and final T20I match of the series by 49 runs against Ireland on Saturday night. Batting first, the visitors scored 189 runs. In reply, Ireland could not make more than 140 runs losing 9 wickets. At the same time, the hosts have got whitewashed after losing all three matches of the series.

Two openers, Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks added 127 runs in the opening partnership for the Proteas after winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Before returning to the dressing room in the 16th over of the innings, Reeza made 69 off 48 balls in 7 fours and 1 six.

David Miller, who played a stormy inning in the previous match, came after one down today. A devastating inning of 36 off 17 balls was made from his bat. Captain Bavuma hit 6 fours and 2 sixes, he scored 72 runs from 51 balls.

Ireland lost 7 wickets for just 94 runs in reply to the Proteas’ 189 runs. With the exception of captain Andrew Balbirnie’s 27, none of the top batsmen could cross the 20-run mark. Barry McCarthy (13) and Craig Young (22) reduced the gap in the end. Lizaad Williams, George Linde, and Wiaan Mulder took two wickets each for South Africa.

WI vs AUS (2nd ODI)

The host West Indies has defeated Australia by 4 wickets in the second ODI of the three-match series. With the help of Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder’s half-century, the Caribbeans crossed the 188-run target set by the Aussies with 12 overs to spare.

Australia elected to bat first after winning the Toss in Barbados. They lost six wickets to collect just 45 runs on the board. The Aussie still tried to turn around. Wes Agar, Matthew Wade, and Adam Zampa batted well and Australia scored 187 runs in the end. Agar made 41 off 36 balls. Wade and Zampa both scored 36 runs. 19 runs came from Mitchell Starc’s bat.

Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph took 3 wickets each for the Caribbean. Besides, Sheldon Cottrell took 2 wickets.

The Caribbean also fell into the batting disaster after coming down to play for 188 runs. They lost five wickets to score 72 runs in Aussies’ furious bowling. Then the match was tilted towards the Aussies. From there, the West Indies were pulled by Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder. The pair scored 92 runs in the sixth wicket partnership. Holder returned to the dressing room with 52 runs but Pooran left the field after winning the match. The unbeaten 59-run innings from Pooran made him the player of the match. As a result of this victory, the series is now tied at 1-1.
