Cricket Highlights, 22 Oct: ICC Men’s T20 World Cup (Match 11 & 12)

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Match 11 (Namibia vs Ireland)

In the 11th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, Namibia has won by 8 wickets with 9 balls to spare against Ireland thanks to David Wiese’s all-rounder performance at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. At the same time, they have come to play in the T20 World Cup for the first time and have become runners-up in the ‘A’ group and got a place in the Super 12.

Ireland won the toss and elected to bat first, they scored 125 runs losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs due to the outstanding bowling of Namibia’s bowlers. Opener Paul Stirling top-scored with 38 off 24 balls. Kevin O’Brien scored 25 runs and the captain Andrew Balbirnie scored 21 runs. For Namibia, Jan Frylinck took the most number of 3 wickets and David Wiese took 2 wickets.

Chasing an easy target of 126, Namibia reached the target in 18.3 overs, losing just two wickets. Captain Gerhard Erasmus and David Wiese played two important innings in the team’s victory. Erasmus scored an unbeaten 53 off 49 balls and Wiese left the field with an unbeaten 28 off 14 balls. Curtis Campher took the highest number of 2 wickets for the Irish.

Namibia won this match and got a place in Group-2 of Super Twelve. On the other hand, Ireland is finishing third in the points table with their second consecutive defeat.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Match 12 (Sri Lanka vs Netherlands)

In the second match of the day, Sri Lanka won the low-scoring match against the Netherlands at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium by 8 wickets with 77 balls to spare. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, the Netherlands were bowled out for 44 in just 10 overs by brilliant bowling of the Sri Lankan bowlers.

For the Netherlands, Colin Ackermann top-scored with 11 off 9 balls. Besides, no other batsman has scored double figures for the Netherlands. Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga took the highest number of 3 wickets each for the Lankans. Besides, Maheesh Theekshana took 2 wickets and Dushmantha Chameera took 1 wicket.

Chasing an easy target of 45, Sri Lanka lost 2 wickets and reached the target in 7.1 overs. Kusal Perera played the highest innings remaining unbeaten on 33 off 24 balls with 6 boundaries for the team. Brandon Glover and Paul van Meekeren took one wicket each for the Netherlands.

Sri Lanka has secured a place in Group 1 of the Super Twelve by winning this match and becoming the group champion of Group A. On the other hand, with 3 consecutive defeats, the Netherlands is finishing the tournament staying at the bottom of the points table.
