Cricket Highlights, 20 Oct: ICC Men’s T20 World Cup (Match 07 & 08)

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Match 07 (Namibia vs Netherlands)

In the 7th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, Namibia has secured a great victory by 6 wickets against the Netherlands thanks to the all-around performance of David Wiese at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. After losing the toss, the Netherlands batted first and scored 164 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Opener Max O’Dowd top-scored for the team with 70 runs off 56 balls hitting six fours and one six for the Netherlands. Colin Ackermann scored 35 off 32 balls and Scott Edwards scored 21 off 11 balls. For Namibia, Jan Frylinck took the most number of 2 wickets and David Wiese took 1 wicket.

Chasing a challenging target of 165, Namibia reached the target after losing 4 wickets with 6 balls in hand. David Wiese played a key role in the team’s victory, playing a devastating inning of unbeaten 66 off 40 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes. Captain Gerhard Erasmus also scored 32 off 22 balls. Fred Klaassen, Pieter Seelaar, Ackermann and Timm van der Gugten took one wicket each for the Netherlands.

Namibia won the match and has moved up to 3rd place in the points table of Group A. On the other hand, with the second defeat in a row, the Netherlands is now at the bottom of the points table.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Match 08 (Sri Lanka vs Ireland)

Sri Lanka has got a huge victory of 70 runs against Ireland, thanks to the all-around skill of Wanindu Hasaranga in the 8th match of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. After losing the toss and being sent to bat first, Sri Lanka lost 7 wickets in 20 overs and scored 171 runs.

Hasaranga played the highest innings of 71 runs from 47 balls with 10 fours and 1 six for the Lankans. Besides, Pathum Nissanka scored 61 off 47 balls and captain Dasun Shanaka scored 21* off 11 balls. Joshua Little took the highest number of 4 wickets for Ireland. Mark Adair also took 2 wickets and Paul Stirling took 1 wicket.

Chasing a big target of 172, Ireland got bowled out for 101 in 18.3 overs by the Sri Lankan bowlers. Andrew Balbirnie top-scored with 41 off 39 balls for Ireland, and Curtis Campher made 24 off 28 balls. No other batsman has been able to score double digits for Ireland. For Sri Lanka, Maheesh Theekshana took the maximum number of 3 wickets. Lahiru Kumara and Chamika Karunaratne took two wickets each while Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera took one wicket each.

Sri Lanka is at the top of the points table in Group A after winning the match. On the other hand, the defeated side, Ireland is now second in the points table.
