The visiting side, South Africa has won the first T20I match of the series against Ireland by 33 runs at The Village Cricket Stadium in Dublin. After losing the toss, the Proteas lost 7 wickets in 20 overs and scored 165 runs. Aiden Markram (39), David Miller (28), Rassie van der Dussen (25) and Quinton de Kock (20) were instrumental in the team’s good total. Mark Adair (3-39, 4 overs) took the most number of wickets for the Ireland team. Besides, Joshua Little and Simi Singh took two wickets each.
Coming down to bat for the target of 166 runs, Ireland opener Paul Stirling returned to the dressing room after falling victim to George Linde in the second ball of the innings. After that, the hosts lost 4 wickets to score 38 runs in 6 overs of the power play. Harry Tector (36) tried to turn the game around, but George Linde and Tabraiz Shamsi’s spin knocked Ireland out from the match. In the end, the hosts lost 9 wickets in 20 overs and stopped at 132 runs. Tabraiz Shamsi (4-27, 4 overs) was the highest wicket-taker for the Proteas. George Linde and Lungi Ngidi took 2 wickets each and Kagiso Rabada took 1 wicket.
South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20 series by winning the match. They will face each other again in the second match of the series on July 22.
