PAK vs AUS (2nd Test – Day 4)
Pakistan will have to score 507 runs in the fourth innings to defeat Australia in the Karachi Test. It’s unnecessary to mention that their task is not that easy. There is no precedent in the history of cricket to win by chasing so many runs. With successfully chasing a mammoth target of 418 runs in the fourth innings of a Test, the world record is with Windies. They set a world record in 2003 when they defeated Australia in Antigua. So to win the Karachi Test, Pakistan has to set a world record.
The goal of victory seems quite impossible, but looking at Pakistan’s batting, it looks possible. Pakistan, who were bowled out for 148 in the first innings, is showing remarkable batting performance in the second innings. In the morning session on the 4th day, Australia batted 5.3 overs and scored 97 runs for the loss of 2 wickets to declare the second innings. Then Pakistan went down to bat for their second innings and scored 192 for 2 to end the fourth day’s play.
Captain Babar Azam and opener Abdullah Shafique put up an unbroken 171* for the third wicket partnership. Babar scored the sixth Test century, unbeaten on 102 off 197 balls. On the other hand, Opener Abdullah is unbeaten on 71 off 226 balls. Pakistan will need 314 runs with 8 wickets in hand to win on the fifth day.
