Cricket Highlights, 14 & 15 Sept: CPL 2021 (1st Semi-final & 2nd Semi-final)

The 1st semi-final match of the CPL 2021 between Trinbago Knight Riders and St Lucia Kings, and the 2nd semi-final match of the CPL 2021 between Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Kitts & Nevis Patriots rolled on the field yesterday and today morning.

CPL 2021 – 1st Semi-final (Trinbago Knight Riders vs St Lucia Kings)

St Lucia Kings have secured a spot in the final of the CPL 2021 with a 21-run victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders thanks to the all-around performance of David Wiese in the 1st Semi-final match of the tournament. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Kings scored 205 runs to lose 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, courtesy of Mark Deyal’s great innings.

Deyal played an excellent inning of 78 runs playing 44 balls, hitting 5 fours and 6 sixes. In addition, Roston Chase (36 off 21 balls), Wiese (34 off 21 balls), and Tim David (38 off 17 balls) each played some stormy innings. Sunil Narine, Ravi Rampaul, Akeal Hosein, and Khary Pierre took one wicket for the Knight Riders.

The Knight Riders got bowled out, scoring 181 with three balls to spare in Wiese’s superb bowling. Narine played the highest innings of 30 runs for the team. Besides, Denesh Ramdin scored 29, Colin Munro scored 26, and Kieron Pollard scored 26 runs. Wiese took the most number of 5 wickets for the Kings, and Wahab Riaz and Keemo Paul took 2 wickets each.

CPL 2021 – 2nd Semi-final (Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Kitts & Nevis Patriots)

St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots have reached the final of 2021 with a thrilling 7-wicket victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the exciting second semi-final. After losing the toss and batting first, the Warriors lost 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and collected a challenging score of 178 runs.

Shimron Hetmyer played the best innings of 45 runs from 20 balls for the team. Brandon King (26), Chandrapaul Hemraj (26), and Nicholas Pooran (26) were also instrumental in the team’s score. 

Jon-Russ Jaggesar, Dominic Drakes, Naseem Shah, and Fawad Ahmed took two wickets each.

Chasing a big target of 179 runs, the Patriots lost 3 wickets and reached the brink of victory with 13 balls left in the innings. In 3 fours and 8 sixes, Evin Lewis played the highest scoring innings of 77 runs from 39 balls. Chris Gayle also scored 42 and captain Dwayne Bravo 34 runs. Odean Smith took the most number of 2 wickets for the Warriors.

Today, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots will face-off St. Lucia Kings in the tournament’s final match at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
