AFG vs ZIM (2nd Test – Day 4)
There was no way to predict whether the match would be played on the last day after watching the first two sessions of the day in Abu Dhabi. What a fight along with Donald Tiripano by the Zimbabwean captain, Sean Williams! 124 runs came from the invincible 8th wicket partnership of these two. Zimbabwe not only avoided losing by an innings, but they also stretched the last Test of the series on the fifth day.
The 34-year-old batsman scored the fourth Test century of his career playing 173 balls. All three of his four centuries have come in the last three Tests. Williams became the first Zimbabwean to score three consecutive Test centuries.
Zimbabwe’s batting became completely chaotic in the face of controlled bowling by Afghan bowlers. Starting the fourth day with 24 runs without losing any wicket, the team lost the first wicket on 44 runs. Off-spinner Javed Ahmadi started the collapse with a return catch in a full toss delivery bowled by him. In the next over, another opener Kevin Kasuza got confused by Rashid Khan’s Googly & was caught on the slip. Rashid then dismissed Tarisai Musakanda, Sikandar Raza, Ryan Burl, and Regis Chakabva. He picked up five wickets for the fourth time of his five-match Test career, one of the best leg-spinners of all time. The owner of 32 wickets in Tests will get 10 wickets in one match for the second time if he gets another wicket today.
Zimbabwe finished the day with 266 runs for 7 wickets, ahead of Afghanistan by 8 runs. Williams finished the day remaining unbeaten on 106 runs. This innings of 190 balls were arranged in 9 fours and a six. On the other hand, his partner Tiripano will start the fifth day with 63 runs.
