Cricket Highlights, 12 Mar: RSWS T20 (Match 12), IND vs ENG (1st T20), WI vs SL (2nd ODI)

The 12th match of the Road Safety World Series T20 2020-21 between Bangladesh Legends & West Indies Legends, the 1st T20I Test between India & England, and the 2nd ODI between Sri Lanka & West Indies rolled on the field yesterday. Let’s have a look to learn about the exciting moments of them.

RSWS T20 (2020-21) Match 12 (Bangladesh Legends vs West Indies Legends)

An exciting match was played between Bangladesh Legends and West Indies Legends in the 12th match of RSWS T20 (2020-21) on Friday (March 12th) night at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium (Raipur). West Indies Legends won by 5 wickets against their opponent Bangladesh Legends. After losing the toss and opting to bat, Bangladesh Legends lost 7 wickets and put up a challenging score of 169 runs on the board. Mehrab Hossain (44) scored the highest runs for the team. Suleiman Benn (3-17, 4 overs) was the leading wicket-taker for the West Indies Legends. The West Indies Legends started batting aggressively from the beginning to chase the run. As a result, they lost 2 wickets in six overs of the power play and scored 52 runs. Then at the end of the 12th over, Abdur Razzak sent off devastating Kirk Edwards (46) to the dressing room. But in the end, West Indies legend Brian Lara’s unbeaten 31 off 23 balls helped them reach the target with 5 wickets in hand. Abdur Razzak (3-34, 3.5 overs) was the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh Legends.

The West Indies Legends secured their first win of the tournament by winning this match. They have now moved up to fifth place in the points table. On the other hand, Bangladesh Legends are at the bottom of the points table with the fourth defeat in a row.

IND vs ENG (1st T20I)

England and India faced off each other in the first match of the 5-match T20I series on Friday night, March 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad). England won by a huge margin of 8 wickets against their opponent India. After losing the toss and choosing to field, England started to show their dominance from the beginning of the match. 

Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid picked up the wickets of Lokesh Rahul (1) and Kohli (0) as soon as India scored 3 runs. As a captain in all editions, Kohli has been dismissed 14 times for 0 runs. He now holds the record for the most number of dismissals with 0 as the captain of India, surpassing Sourav Ganguly. India had to play well because of the failure of the top order. The middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer played an innings of 67 runs off 48 balls, the team could score only 124 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. English Fast bowler Archer took the maximum of 3 wickets for his team conceding only 23 runs. Chasing a small target, England lost 1 wicket in 8 overs and scored 72 runs. One opener Jos Buttler was dismissed for 28 off 24 balls and the other one, Jason Roy returned with 49 off 32 balls. Johnny Bairstow then took the team to triumph with an unbeaten 26 off 17 balls with 8 wickets in hand and 26 balls to spare. Dawid Malan was unbeaten on 24 off 20 balls. England took a 1-0 lead after winning the first match of the 5-match T20I series. The second match will be held on March 14 at this same venue.

WI vs SL (2nd ODI)

In the second ODI of the series, West Indies and Sri Lanka confronted each other in an exciting match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (Antigua) on Friday, March 12. West Indies won by 5 wickets against their opponent Sri Lanka. After losing the toss, Sri Lanka managed to score 273 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. After losing three wickets for 50 runs, Danushka Gunathilaka scored 96 off 96 balls and Chandimal scored 71 off 98 balls. In the end, Wanindu Hasaranga’s quick-fire 47-run innings of 31-ball leads the hosts to put up a challenging score of 274 runs. Jason Mohammed (3-47, 10 overs) was the highest wicket-taker for West Indies. Coming down to the wicket for chasing the target, West Indies openers Evin Lewis and Shai Hope’s 192-run opening stand brought the Caribbeans closer to victory. Evin Lewis scored his fourth career century off 116 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. He returned to the pavilion scoring 103 runs. Another opener Shai Hope returned to the dressing room scoring 84 runs off 108 balls as a victim to Thisara Perera. In the end, thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 35 runs, the hosts berthed in the port of victory with 2 balls left. West Indies won the match and the three-match series (2-0) as well. The third match of the series will be played on March 14 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (Antigua).
