In the 1st semi-final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, New Zealand has picked up a great 5-wicket win over England with six balls to spare, thanks to an adventurous inning by Daryl Mitchell at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. After losing the toss and batting first, England lost 4 wickets in 20 overs and scored 166 runs.
For England, Moeen Ali played the highest-scoring innings for the team remaining unbeaten on 51 off 37 balls. Dawid Malan scored 41 and Jos Buttler scored 29 runs. For the Black Caps, Tim Southee, Adam Milne, James Neesham, and Trent Boult took one wicket each.
Chasing a challenging target of 167 runs, New Zealand fell under pressure from the very beginning with the aggressive bowling of England bowlers. As a result, after losing 2 wickets at the end of 10 overs, they could make only 58 runs. Then Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell started to lead the team to victory. But the Kiwis were in danger again when Conway returned to the dressing room with 46 off 38 balls.
New Zealand needed 57 runs in the last 4 overs to win. In the end, Mitchell and James Neesham led the team to victory with 1 overs in hand. Mitchell played a devastating inning of unbeaten 72 off 47 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Besides, Neesham played a stormy inning of unbeaten 27 runs in 11 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes. For England, Liam Livingstone and Chris Woakes took the most number of 2 wickets and Adil Rashid took 1 wicket.
By winning this match, New Zealand has secured its place as the 1st finalist of the tournament. On the other hand, with this debacle, England is out of the tournament.
