Cricket Highlights, 10 Jun: PSL 2021 (Match 16 & Match 17), ENG vs NZ (2nd Test–Day 1)

 

The 16th match of the PSL 6 between Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings, the 17th match of the PSL 6 between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi, & the 1st day of the 2nd test between England and New Zealand rolled on the field yesterday. Let’s have a glimpse over the article to know about the exciting moments of the matches. 

PSL 2021 Match 16 (Multan Sultans vs Karachi Kings)

Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings met in the 16th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 on Wednesday night, June 10 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi). Multan Sultans beat their opponents Karachi Kings by 12 runs. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, Rilee Rossouw’s 44 off 24 balls helped the Sultans to pick up a challenging score of 176 losing 5 wickets. Besides, the innings of Khushdil (44*) and Maqsood (31) played an important role in raising this score.

The Kings were under pressure from the Sultans’ aggressive bowling from the outset to chase the run. They lost 1 wicket in six overs of Powerplay and managed to score only 31 runs. Then in the fourth wicket, Babar Azam and Chadwick Walton’s 77-run partnership showed the Kings to dream of winning again. But when Walton (35) returned to the dressing room, the King’s XI collapsed like a house of cards. Imran Khan’s 3-wicket haul in the last over stopped the Kings’ innings 13 runs short of the target. Babar Azam (85*) scored the highest runs for the team. Imran Khan took the most wickets for Sultans (3-28, 4 overs).

Multan Sultans have risen to the 5th spot in the points table after winning the match and the Karachi Kings are in 2nd place in the points table after losing.

PSL 2021 Match 17 (Lahore Qalandars vs Peshawar Zalmi)

Rashid brought victory for his team in the last match by spreading light with bat and ball. The next day also, he is the hero of victory again. Rashid Khan, who is in great form, took 5 wickets in Thursday night’s match.

After losing the toss against Peshawar Zalmi in the second match of the day, Lahore Qalandars scored 170 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Tim David scored an unbeaten 64 off 36 balls, Ben Dunk made 48 off 33 balls, and James Faulkner remained unbeaten with 22 runs off 7 balls.

Peshawar was playing well for the target of 171 runs. However, Rashid shattered Peshawar’s innings by taking 5 wickets conceding only 20 runs in 4 overs. As a result, Shoaib Malik’s innings of 73 off 48 balls could not bring victory to Peshawar. Lahore won by 10 runs in the end. Rashid won the man of the match award for the second time in a row.

After winning the match, Lahore Calendars topped the points table and Peshawar Zalmi lost to fourth place in the points table.

ENG vs NZ (2nd Test – Day 1)

England finished the first day of the second Test well against New Zealand at Edgbaston. England captain Joe Root elected to bat first upon winning the toss. At the end of the day, England managed to score 258 losing 7 wickets. Opener Rory Burns, who scored a century in the first Test, also performed well in this Test. After playing an innings of 81 runs, he lost his wicket with the delivery of Trent Boult and returned to the dressing room. Besides, Daniel Lawrence is unbeaten on 67 runs. His partner is Mark Wood (18). Trent Boult, Matt Henry, and Ajaz Patel took 2 wickets each for the Kiwis. Neil Wagner took 1 wicket on the day.
