Cricket Highlights, 08 Jul: ZIM vs BAN (Only Test–Day 2), ENG vs PAK (1st ODI)

The Day-2 of the one-off Test between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and the 1st ODI of the 3-match series between England and Pakistan rolled on the field yesterday. Let’s have a glimpse on the article to know about the interesting happenings of the day’s games.

ZIM vs BAN (Only Test – Day 2)

Zimbabwe has scored 114 runs in their 1st innings at the end of the day coming down to bat after Bangladesh scored a hefty total of 468 runs in their 1st innings. At the end of the second day, they are 354 runs behind in the first innings. And they have 9 more wickets in their hands. Brendan Taylor (37) and Takudzwanashe Kaitano (33) finished the day remaining unbeaten.

At the end of the first day, Bangladesh lost 8 wickets to score 294 runs and finished the day with Mahmudullah (54*) and Taskin Ahmed (13*) at the crease. They set a great record by batting. Mahmudullah and Taskin put on 191 runs for Bangladesh in the ninth wicket partnership, which is the highest ninth-wicket partnership for Bangladesh and the second-highest in cricket history.

On the second day, Taskin was accompanying Mahmudullah like a recognized batsman. He picked up the first fifty of his Test career facing 69 balls. In the end, Taskin returned to the pavilion after falling victim to Milton Shumba with 75 off 134 balls in 11 fours. Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on his career-best 150 off 278 balls, he hit 17 fours and a six to do that. As the last batsman of the Tigers, Ebadot Hossain got out by Blessing Muzarabani for zero runs.

Blessing Mujarabani took the maximum of four wickets for Zimbabwe. Donald Tiripano and Victor Nyauchi took two wickets each while Milton Shumba and Richard Ngarava took one wicket each.

Zimbabwe started well in response to Bangladesh’s wonderful first innings. In the end, Shakib Al Hasan broke the opening pair of the team. He trapped opener Milton Shumba (41) in the LBW whilst the team total was 61 runs. After batting well, the young star fast bowler Taskin is also on fire in bowling. He conceded only 13 runs in 10 overs, six of which were maiden overs.

ENG vs PAK (1st ODI)

England has defeated Pakistan by a huge margin of 9 wickets with a brand new XI. Ben Stokes has won his first match as captain.

Winning the toss, English captain Ben Stokes elected to field first. In the beginning, Pakistan lost 3 wickets to score only 17 runs in the fiery bowling of Saqib Mahmood. An Opener, Imam-ul Haq got out in the first ball without scoring.

Saqib also sent off Babar Azam with zero runs in the third ball of the first over. Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for just 13 runs by Saqib. The team’s run was 17 then. Pakistan was bowled out for 141 in 35.2 overs by England bowlers. Saqib took the maximum of 4 wickets for England. Matt Parkinson and Craig Overton picked up two wickets each.

In reply, the English reached an easy target of 142 runs by losing 1 wicket in just 21.5 overs. Dawid Malan remained unbeaten on 68 off 69 balls. Zak Crawley remained unbeaten on 58 off 50 balls. Debutant Phil Salt went back to the dressing room after getting out by Shaheen Afridi, he scored 7 runs. England won the match and went ahead 1-0 in the series.
