Cricket Highlights, 07 Jan: AUS vs ENG (4th Test – Day 3)

The 3rd day of the 4th Test of the Ashes 2021/22 rolled on the field yesterday.

AUS vs ENG (4th Test – Day 3)

England cricket team scored 13 runs without losing a wicket at the end of the second day, and they came to the field on the morning of the third day with Zak Crawley (2) and Haseeb Hameed (2) at the crease. Rain is interfering with this Test every day. On the third day, he was no exception, playing 65 overs. England lost 7 wickets and collected 258 runs.

Mitchell Starc bowled Hameed with a great delivery, who made 3 off 39 balls at the start of the day. Scott Boland then bowled Crawley for 18 off 55 balls. England’s devastation was exacerbated when Boland sent England captain Joe Root to the dressing room for a duck. Then Cameron Green picked up the wicket of Dawid Malan (3) in the next over. As a result, before going to the lunch break, the score of England stood at 36 runs losing 4 wickets.

However, after the break, without losing a wicket in the second session, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes made 128 runs for the fifth wicket partnership. But in the third session, this pair was broken by spinner Nathan Lyon. English all-rounder Stokes returned to the pavilion with 66 runs from 91 balls, hitting 9 fours and one six.

Another England batsman, Jos Buttler, returned to the dressing room before opening to score after falling victim to Pat Cummins. After losing 6 wickets for 173 runs, the visitors were afraid of follow-on. However, Mark Wood’s stormy batting blew away that fear. Bairstow-Wood made 72 off 72 balls for the eighth wicket partnership. Cummins broke down Wood’s resistance (41 off 42 balls) with a bouncer and finally, Wood returned to the dressing room.

However, Jonny Bairstow is unbeaten on 103 runs off 140 balls at the end of the day. He has scored his 7th career century in 138 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes. Jack Leach is unbeaten on 4 as his partner in the wicket.

England is still 158 runs behind to host Australia. Leading the series 3-0, Australia is also in a good position in the fourth Test.
