Cricket Highlights, 06 Nov: ICC Men’s T20 World Cup (Match 38 & 39)

The 38th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 between Australia and West Indies and the 39th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 between England and South Africa rolled on the field yesterday. 

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Match 38 (Australia vs West Indies)

In the 38th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, Australia has picked up a huge eight-wicket win over the West Indies with 22 balls to spare thanks to a great innings by David Warner at the Zayed Cricket Stadium. At the same time, Aussies have confirmed the semi-final by becoming the runner-up of Group-1.

After losing the toss and batting first, West Indies lost 7 wickets in 20 overs and scored 157 runs. For the Caribbeans, the captain Kieron Pollard top-scored with 44 off 31 balls. Besides, Evin Lewis scored (29) and Shimron Hetmyer scored (27) runs. Josh Hazlewood took the most number of 4 wickets for the Aussies. Adam Zampa, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins also took one wicket each.

Chasing a challenging target of 158 runs, Australia reached the victory port by losing only 2 wickets in 16.2 overs. Opener David Warner played a devastating innings of unbeaten 89 off 56 balls hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes. Mitchell Marsh also played a stormy innings of 53 off 32 balls. Akeal Hosein and Chris Gayle took one wicket each for the Caribbeans.

After winning the 4th match in a row, Australia is now in 2nd place on the points table with 8 points in Group-1 of Super 12. On the other hand, West Indies have been knocked out of the tournament remaining in 5th place in the points table.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 – Match 39 (England vs South Africa)

In the second match of the day, South Africa got a dramatic 10-run victory over England thanks to an impeccable inning by Rassie van der Dussen at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, South Africa lost just two wickets in the allotted 20 overs and scored a huge 189 runs.

For the Proteas, Rassie van der Dussen played an unbeaten innings of 94 playing 60 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes. Besides, Quinton de Kock scored 34 and Aiden Markram played an innings 52 off 25 balls remaining unbeaten. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid took 1 wicket each for England.

Chasing a big target of 190 runs, England’s innings came to a halt at 179 after losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs due to the Proteas’ superb bowling. Moeen Ali scored the best for the team, he collected 37 runs off 27 balls. Dawid Malan (33) and Liam Livingstone (28) also played two effective innings. Kagiso Rabada took the most number of 3 wickets for South Africa. Besides, Tabraiz Shamsi and Dwaine Pretorius took 2 wickets each and Anrich Nortje took 1 wicket each.

Despite winning the 4th match in a row, South Africa is now out of the tournament from 3rd place in the points table with 8 points in Group-1 of the Super 12. On the other hand, England has secured the semifinals by becoming the group champions with a total of four wins despite a debacle in this match.
