Cricket Highlights, 04 Jan: BBL 2021/22 (Match 38), NZ vs BAN (1st Test – Day 4), SA vs IND (2nd Test – Day 2)

The 38th match of the BBL 2021/22 between Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers, the 4th day of the 1st Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh, and the 2nd day of the 2nd Test between South Africa and India rolled on the field yesterday. 

BBL 2021/22 – Match 38 (Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers)

Perth Scorchers have defeated Sydney Sixers by a huge margin of 10 runs in the 38th match of the BBL 2021/22 at the Metricon Stadium in Gold Coast. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Scorchers scored 143 runs to lose 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Aaron Hardie played a devastating inning of 45 off 24 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes for the Scorchers. Ashton Agar scored 29 off 20 balls, and Kurtis Patterson and Colin Munro scored 27 runs. Hayden Kerr took 4 wickets and Daniel Christian took 2 wickets for the Sixers.

Chasing a challenging target of 144 runs, the Sixers lost 8 wickets in 20 overs and their innings stopped at 133 runs in the Scorchers bowlers’ stellar bowling. Daniel Christian played the highest innings of 73 runs off 61 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes for the team. Jordan Silk also scored 16 and Hayden Kerr 13 runs. Andrew Tye and Tymal Mills took the maximum number of 3 wickets each for the Scorchers. Lance Morris also took 2 wickets.

The Perth Scorchers still hold the top spot in the points table by winning this match. On the other hand, the Sydney Sixers are now second in the points table.

NZ vs BAN (1st Test – Day 4)

Bangladesh started the fourth day’s play with 401 runs for 6 wickets against the host New Zealand at Mount Maunganui. With the help of Mehidy Hasan and Yasir Ali, the visitors finished their first innings with 458 runs. Mehidy scored 47 and Yasir scored 26 runs. Trent Boult took the highest number of 4 wickets for the Kiwis, and Neil Wagner took 3 wickets and Tim Southee took 2 wickets each.

The Kiwis started the second innings with a 130-run deficit and finished the fourth day with 147 for five. They are now 17 runs ahead of Bangladesh with only 5 wickets in hand. Ross Taylor is unbeaten on 37 and Rachin Ravindra is there at the crease, scoring 6 runs.

In the beginning, fast bowler Taskin Ahmed bowled Kiwi captain Tom Latham (14) for 29 runs. After that, the hundred-scorer of the first innings Devon Conway (13), returned to the pavilion after falling victim to Ebadot Hossain.

The Kiwis’ score was 136 runs for 2 in the second innings. After that, the hosts lost 3 wickets without scoring a run in the great bowling of Ebadot Hossain. After Will Young bowled for 69 runs, Ebadot sent off Henry Nicholls to the dressing room before he could open to score. The pacer trapped Tom Blundell (0) with lbw after one over. So far, Ebadot has taken four wickets.

SA vs IND (2nd Test – Day 2)

In Shardul Thakur’s devastating bowling South Africa got bowled out for 229 runs in the first innings after getting a 27-run lead. Keegan Petersen scored the highest 62 runs for the Africans. Temba Bavuma also played an innings of a half-century in ODI style. Indian pacer Shardul single-handedly smashed the Proteas batting line-up with 7 wickets for 61 runs.

South Africa started the second day of the Johannesburg Test with 35 runs to lose one wicket. Mohammed Shami dismissed Aiden Markram for 7 runs on the previous day. On the 2nd day, after falling victim to Shardul Thakur, another opener Dean Elgar returned to the dressing room with 28 runs off 120 balls.

Shardul then picked up one by one Rassie van der Dussen (1 off 17 balls), Temba Bavuma (51 off 60 balls), Kyle Verreynne (21 off 72 balls), Marco Jansen (21 off 34 balls), Keegan Petersen (62 off 118 balls), and Lungi Ngidi (0). Mohammed Shami took two wickets and Jasprit Bumrah took one wicket.

Coming down to bat in their second innings, India lost 2 wickets in 44 runs and fell into some danger. KL Rahul (8) and Mayank Agarwal (23) returned to the dressing room shortly. However, India ended the second day’s play by collecting 85 runs without losing any more wickets. Cheteshwar Pujara is unbeaten on 35 and Ajinkya Rahane is unbeaten on 11 runs.
