The 5th T20I of the 5-match series between South Africa and West Indies rolled on the field today. Let’s have a glimpse over the article to know about the exciting moments of the matches.
WI vs SA (5th T20I)
In the fifth and decider match of the series in Grenada on Sunday (July 4), the Caribbeans were bowled out at 143 losing nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs after coming down to bat for the target of 168 runs that was set by South Africa. The Caribbeans lost the 5-match series 3-2.
Before winning the toss, South Africa made 168 runs for 4 wickets. Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram laid the foundation for a fighting total. In the devastating batting of these two, the Proteas crossed 150-mark. Before returning to the pavilion, both of them got half a century. De Cock was dismissed for 60 off 42 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Markram made 70 off 48 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes.
Lendl Simmons returned to the dressing room scoring just 3 runs to chase the target, but Lewis’ storm took the Windies total to 65 in 7 overs. After Gayle (9) left the wicket, Lewis also left by giving a catch to Markram in the delivery of Lungi Ngidi. Before returning, the batsman scored 52 runs off 34 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Since then, no Caribbean batsman had been able to bring the team back in the match.
In the 13th and 18th overs, Pooran hinted to return to the fight by hitting two sixes in each of the overs. But that was a hint only, reality was different. The Caribbeans lost wickets at regular breaks falling under the pressure of asking run-rate. At one stage, the hosts were in danger of being all out. The Proteas easily won the match which was made difficult by the great skill of Tabraiz Shamsi and Rabada.
South Africa is returning home with both of the Test and T20 series trophies. They are also taking the Man of the match (Aiden Markram) and Man of the series (Tabraiz Shamsi) awards with them as well.
