Cricket Highlights, 03 Aug: BAN vs AUS (1st T20I), WI vs PAK (4th T20I)

The 1st T20I of the 5-match series between Bangladesh and Australia rolled on the field yesterday and the scheduled 4th and final T20I of the 4-match series between Pakistan and West Indies was washed away due to rain. BAN vs AUS (1st T20I)

Hosts Bangladesh has defeated visiting Australia by 23 runs in the first T20I match of the 5-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday evening. At the same time, Bangladesh has registered their first-ever win against Australia in the shortest format of international cricket.

After losing the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh was able to score 131 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. The batsmen made a good start, but the Aussie bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc bowled well later and the Tigers could not make a big score. Shakib Al Hasan (36) scored the highest for the hosts. Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood took the maximum number of 3 wickets conceding 24 runs in 4 overs for Australia. Mitchell Starc also took 2 wickets.

Batting for an easy target of 132 runs, the visitors got lost in the spin of the Tigers. Mahedi Hasan bowled Alex Carey (0) in the first ball of the innings. After that Aussies lost 3 wickets to score only 11 runs in 3 overs. In the fourth wicket, the Aussie captain Matthew Wade and Mitchell Marsh put on a 38-run stand, but Matthew Wade (13) returned to the dressing room falling victim to Nasum Ahmed. After a while, Aston Agar (7) returned to the dressing room after being hit out in the delivery of Nasum.

Nasum then sent Marsh back to the pavilion to lead the Tigers to victory. In the end, the Australian team lost all of their wickets by 108 runs in the aggressive bowling of the Tigers. Mitchell Marsh scored a maximum of 45 off 45 balls in 4 fours and 1 six for the Aussies. Nasum Ahmed has won the player of the match award for the best bowling figure of his career (4-19, 4 overs). Besides, Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam took 2 wickets each, and Shakib and Mahedi took 1 wicket each.

Bangladesh won the match and went ahead 1-0 in the five-match series. The two teams will face each other at the same venue at the same time in the second match of the series today.

WI vs PAK (4th T20I)

The fourth and final T20I match of the West Indies and Pakistan series was washed away in the rain on Tuesday night. Only 3 overs were played before the rain stopped the game. After that, it was not possible to continue the game due to rain.

The host West Indies lost the toss and was sent to bat first at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Where they took 30 runs in 3 overs without losing any wicket. Andre Fletcher was unbeaten on 17 off 12 balls and Chris Gayle was unbeaten on 12 off 6 balls.

A total of three matches of the four-match T20 series (1st, 3rd, and 4th) have been abandoned due to rain. After winning the second match by 7 runs, the visiting Pakistan now won the title of the series by 1-0.
