Cricket Highlights, 01 Jan: BBL 2021/22 (Match 29 & Match 30), NZ vs BAN (1st Test – Day 1)

The 29th match of the BBL 2021/22 between Hobart Hurricanes vs Brisbane Heat, the 30th match of the BBL 2021/22 between Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades, and the 1st day of the 1st Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh rolled on the field yesterday. 

BBL 2021/22 – Match 29 (Hobart Hurricanes vs Brisbane Heat)

The Brisbane Heat has picked up a 14-run victory over the Hobart Hurricanes at the Blundstone Arena in the 29th match of the BBL 2021/22. After losing the toss, the Heat went down to bat first and scored 150 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.

James Bazley hit 3 fours and 2 sixes and scored 44 runs off 28 balls for the Heat, remaining unbeaten. Jack Wildermuth played an innings of 28 runs and Sam Heazlett collected 26 runs. For the Hurricanes, Nathan Ellis took the most number of 3 wickets and Thomas Rogers took 2 wickets.

Chasing the challenging target of 151 runs, the Hurricanes’ innings came to a halt with 136 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs due to great bowling of the Heat’s bowlers. Thomas Rogers played the top-scoring innings of 33 off 20 balls for the team. Besides, D’Arcy Short scored 27 runs. Xavier Bartlett took the maximum number of 4 wickets for the Heat. Mujeeb Ur Rahman took 3 wickets and Mark Steketee took 1 wicket each.

After winning this match, Brisbane Heat has risen to 5th place in the points table. The Hobart Hurricanes, on the other hand, are now in 3rd place in the points table after getting defeated.

BBL 2021/22 – Match 30 (Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades)

The 30th BBL 2021/22 has been declared abandoned after the toss due to rain at Coffs Harbour. The Sydney Sixers decided to bowl first after winning the toss. But after that, the rain started and in the end, the match was abandoned. However, as the match was abandoned, both the teams got 2 points.


NZ vs BAN (1st Test – Day 1)

New Zealand lost the toss and elected to bat in the first Test match between hosts New Zealand and Bangladesh at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The hosts lost 5 wickets in 87.3 overs and scored 258 runs in the end. Kiwi batsman Devon Conway scored a great century.

Both the beginning and the end of the first day favoured Bangladesh. The Kiwi batters have dominated in between. Fast bowler Shoriful Islam sent off New Zealand captain Tom Latham (1) to the dressing room while the Kiwi’s total was 1 run. Then New Zealand began to dominate. Conway and Will Young put up 138 runs for the second wicket partnership. Conway and Ross Taylor put up a 50-run stand for the third wicket after Young was run out for 52 and returned to the dressing room.

After that Shoriful Islam took the wicket of Ross Taylor (31) while the total for the opposition was 189 runs and Bangladesh came back in the match. Conway returned to the pavilion after playing a 122-run innings after falling victim to part-time spinner Mominul Haque. Later in the day’s last ball, Tom Blundell (11) returned to the dressing room after being bowled by pacer Ebadot Hossain. However, Henry Nicholls will start the second day’s play from unbeaten 32 runs alongside the next batter to come.
