In the 6th match of CPL 2022, Barbados Royals cruised to an 11-run win by DLS method over St Lucia Kings courtesy of Kyle Mayers’ superb all-round performance at Warner Park in Basseterre. Kyle Mayers was adjudged the player of the match after scoring 36 runs off 23 balls with the bat and taking the highest number of 4 wickets with 4 runs in 2 overs.

At the start of the match, St Lucia Kings captain Faf du Plessis opted to field the toss and put the Barbados Royals to bat. Barbados Royals collected a fighting score of 162 runs after losing 7 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs.

The two openers of Barbados Royals, Kyle Mayers, and Rahkeem Cornwall got off to a flying start after coming down to bat. They both made a partnership of 49 runs off 28 balls. Rahkeem scored 32 runs off 17 balls with 5 fours and 1 six before getting dismissed. Mayers was then paired with wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock. They made a pair of 27 runs for the 2nd wicket.

They picked up 57 runs after losing one wicket in 6 overs of power play with superb batting. Mayers returned to the pavilion with scoring 36 runs off 23 balls for the team’s 76 runs. He smashed 6 fours and 1 six in this innings.

Barbados Royals’ run rate slowed down as Mayers returned to the dressing room. The team that scored 100 runs in 11.2 overs could score only 62 runs in the last 52 balls. Because the batsmen of Barbados Royals were suddenly disoriented by the bowling canon of St. Lucia Kings bowlers. From 104/2, the team score stood at 118/6.

Quinton de Kock scored 24 off 25 balls and Azam Khan returned to the dugout with 10 runs off 11 balls. Harry Tector got out after scoring 5 runs off 7 balls. Corbin Bosch scored 2 runs off 4 balls. After losing 4 wickets in the gap of 14 runs, Barbados Royals were brought back into the match by captain David Miller.

In the end, thanks to Miller’s 15-ball unbeaten 24-run storming innings, Barbados Royals could collect a fighting score. Besides, Jason Holder scored 15 off 15 balls and Joshua Bishop scored 10 runs off 3 balls. Mark Deyal, Alzarri Joseph, and Scott Kuggeleijn were the top wicket-takers picking up 2 wickets each, and David Wiese picked up 1 wicket for St. Lucia Kings.

Chasing a challenging target of 163 runs, St. Lucia Kings stumbled early. At the end of 3 overs, Kyle Myers alone crushed the Saint Lucia Kings by taking 4 wickets for the team’s 7 runs. He took these 4 wickets for just 4 runs in two overs including 1 maiden.

Then captain Du Plessis and Alzarri Joseph tried to bring the team back into the match. They scored 91 runs in 9 overs without losing any wickets. But after that, it rained in the game. As a result, not a single ball could be bowled on the field. In the end, Barbados Royals left the field with a victory of 11 runs with the help of the DLS system. Du Plessis remained unbeaten on 47 off 20 balls and Joseph on 29 off 18 balls.

Barbados Royals have won two consecutive matches including this match and are at 2nd place in the points table. On the other hand, Saint Lucia Kings are now at the bottom of the points table after losing two matches in a row.
