Covid-19 outbreak in the squads forces PCB to announce an indefinite postponement of the PSL 2021

Here comes the shocker for the cricket fans! The Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) has been postponed indefinitely. The tournament faced postponement last time as well when the play-offs were yet to be played due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, it was rescheduled for last November and rolled on successfully. However, the tournament has been postponed only after 14 matches being played this time due to several COVID-19 cases among the players and staff of the teams.

Fawad Ahmed from Islamabad United was tested Covid-19 positive at first which led to postponing that day’s match to the next day. After that, several tests were made. A total of 7 cases have been found till now according to an official release from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Though the names of the individuals are not yet disclosed, an official release stated that none of them were on the matches that took place on March 3. English batsmen Tom Banton’s name has come from social media but he hasn’t played any match since February 22 & Karachi Kings have revealed the name of their fielding coach Kamran Khan as a Covid-19 infected.

The decision of postponement was made in a meeting between the organizing committee and the team owners and management on Thursday (March 4). The decision has been taken as must-needed well-being for the teams and everyone related to this tournament. The release from PCB also stated, “The PCB, as an immediate step, will focus on the safe and secure passage of all participants, and arrange repeat PCR tests, vaccines and isolation facilities to the six participating sides.”

The tournament will not roll in the field for the time being which is not a good news for the cricket lovers at all. All the details regarding this and further timetables are expected to be announced soon.

It’s always sad for a cricket fan to hear a piece of news like this. But no worries as a lot more cricket actions are still going on, let’s predict the winners & play on Baji!
