Covid-19 drives Pak-Windies ODI series to get postponed to June 2022

The pre-scheduled three-match ODI series between Pakistan and the West Indies has been postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the West Indies squad. The bilateral ODI series was scheduled to start on Saturday, and now the series has been postponed to June 2022.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) said in a joint statement that the three-match ODI series would be held in June next year. The statement expressed that the decision was made to play with their best team as the series that is also a part of the World Cup Super League.

Rapid antigen tests were carried out on the remaining 21 members of the West Indies squad after five of them tested positive in the PCR test on Wednesday. The third T20I match was allowed to take place after the result came negative for them. However, in the latest PCR test, all the results of the Pakistani player were negative.

There was more statement that The West Indies players, who had a negative result, will leave Pakistan at the end of the match yesterday. However, those who have a positive impact have to go under isolation. However, arrangements have been made to spend Christmas with their families.

Members of the Pakistan team have also been told to leave the bio-bubble zone after yesterday’s match. The CWI has thanked the PCB for postponing the ODI series to 2022.

The West Indies are the first men’s international team to tour Pakistan after New Zealand and England cancelled their tours to Pakistan due to security concerns ahead of the T20 World Cup.
