Covid-19 cases in Ireland drives the second ODI with West Indies postponed

The second ODI of the series between Ireland and the West Indies has been postponed due to the Covid-19 infection. Earlier last month, Ireland had postponed the series against the United States due to the outbreak of Covid-19. This time the match was postponed due to a lack of players to form the XI due to the deadly virus.

The presence of Covid-19 was found in the bodies of three more of the Ireland camp. Besides, two players are out due to injury and one has been rested due to a concussion. The second ODI scheduled for today (Tuesday) has been postponed due to severe damage to the squad.

The West Indies and Ireland boards issued a joint statement stating that Tuesday’s match would be postponed. Considering the present situations, all possible matches in the series would be tried to be played on with. Two ODIs and one T20I match are yet to be played on the series.

According to media reports, Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie, wicketkeeper-batsman Lorcan Tucker, and interim coach David Ripley have got infected with Covid-19 on Monday. Simi Singh and Ben White have already dropped out due to injuries.

In addition, Andy McBrine and pacer Mark Adair have injuries. However, Paul Stirling and Shane Getkate have joined the team after being negative in the Covid-19 Test. Although players at the Ireland camp were infected with Covid-19, no one in the host Caribbean team tested positive until Monday.
