Concussion leads Faf du Plessis to partially memory loss

Protea star Faf du Plessis suffered a serious head injury while playing in the 19th match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021. He had hit his head with the knee of teammate Mohammad Hasnain while stopping a ball at the boundary. He was forced to leave the field due to a concussion.

The accident happened during the match between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi on Saturday. Du Plessis dived to save a boundary in the 19th over of the Peshawar innings. Then he was hit by Hasnain’s knee coming from the other side. He was lying down on the ground for some time being. He later got up and went to the dugout and was sent to the hospital.

Du Plessis said he had partially lost his memory in that incident. He was taken to hospital on Saturday night. However, he was released from the hospital the next day. Du Plessis has assured that he is on the path to recovery now.

He wrote on social media (Twitter), “Thank you all for the message of good wishes and support. I am back at the hotel now and on my way to recovery. Partial memory was lost with a concussion. But it will be fine. I hope to be back on the field soon. Love for all.”

Du Plessis’ wife, Emari, was immediately frightened on the day of the incident. She wrote in the story feature on social media Instagram “It’s almost killing me now. Do I really have to take him to the hospital for an examination?”

The Concussion substitute was also needed in the previous match of the Gladiators. Andre Russell was hit in the head by Mohammad Musa’s bouncer that day. That is why Russell was not included in the XI for the next match against Zalmi.
