The Sri Lankan cricket team will board a flight to Bangladesh next Sunday to play a two-match Test series. Earlier, the newly appointed head coach of the Sri Lankan team, Chris Silverwood, spoke about various aspects of the team. The coach has been reviewing various team statistics since taking charge in April.
Trying to figure out where the team still has a lot to improve. Silverwood spoke about these issues on Thursday. This was his first press conference since taking charge of the Lankans for two years in early April.
The Lankans have not been able to perform consistently in international cricket for the last few years. Silverwood, therefore, wants to bring positivity to batting and bowling from the beginning. He said: ”I’ve spent the last few weeks looking at the statistics and improving ways. One of these is an eagerness to score run. We need to give our batsmen the confidence to play and not be afraid to get out.”
”This does not mean that we have to be reckless. I mean, we have to be smart in this too. I want them to be positive, to be brave. If we move forward with this attitude, the dot-ball rate will decrease, and the strike-rate will increase, which can only be a good thing.”
Silverwood also challenged the bowlers even though he had a different look at the batsmen. “I have challenged the Test bowlers to be aggressive in the first 12 balls,” he added. ”Because we all know that the first 12 balls can have a real impact and pressure the batsmen.”
”It’s a matter of discipline so that we can do better in the long run and not get bored doing it. This is a continuous process; if it is carried forward properly, it will be seen that everyone has been able to do it one day.”
