The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with the West Indies Cricket Board has announced a new tournament to give cricket fans a different taste. The ten-over tournament called ‘The 6ixty’ will be held before the start of the upcoming CPL. The authorities are planning to organize it every three months.
For now, the first season of this ‘The 6ixty’ tournament is scheduled to be held on August 24 to 28. All matches will be held in St. Kitts. The first season of ‘The 6ixty’ will be held with six teams of men’s CPL and three teams of women’s CPL. Although it will be organized in T-Ten, there are some different rules in this tournament.
The new rules of ‘The 6ixty’ are:
- The team batting in each innings will get six wickets instead of ten.
- The batting team will get a third floating power play if they hit two sixes in the power play of the first two overs.
- Five overs will be played from the same side without changing the side after each over. The next five overs will be played from the other end.
- If a team fails to bowl 10 overs in 45 minutes, then they have to bowl an over with one fielder less.
- Visitors will be able to vote for ‘Mystery Free Hit’ within the app or website. Batsmen will not be out at that time.
Already, short-term cricket, Dubai’s T-10 has become quite popular. This time the West Indies are going to host this ten-over tournament as the first Test playing nation. Which will basically be under the authority of the CPL. However, the West Indies Cricket Board will also be a partner.
‘The Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle will be the ambassador for the first season of ‘The 6ixty’. At the end of the series against New Zealand, the organizing committee hopes to get all the players of the West Indies national team in this ‘The 6ixty’ tournament.
