Captain Kohli set to open for RCB in IPL 2021 & wish to partner Rohit in ICC T20 World Cup

Indian captain Virat Kohli and regular opener Rohit Sharma inaugurated the innings in the fifth and final match of the T20I series against England. Their plan worked well. They collected 94 runs together in 9 overs for the team. Based on their runs, India got a big total against England. Their collection stood at 224 for 2 in 20 overs. Kohli and Rohit laid the foundation for the big score. India also won the series by 36 runs.

In the last match, Rohit scored 64 runs off 34 balls hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes. Kohli scored an unbeaten 80 off 52 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. The partnership of the duo helped the Men In Blue clinch the five-match series 3-2.

Kohli himself wants to open for any team he will play for and this can be understood by the statement that has been made by him after the team’s series victory against England. The captain has made it clear that he’s going to open for RCB in the upcoming IPL. This might be his plan for a good preparation for the forthcoming ICC T20 World cup as an opener.

Kohli has opened for RCB before in the IPL 2016, and ended up having his best-ever season in the T20 tournament, where he had amassed 973 runs in 16 matches at an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03, and scored 4 centuries in a single edition of IPL. So, it’s clear that it’s a great call made by the captain of both RCB & team India. It will be quite exciting to see the way he performs and makes an impact on his team.

Besides that, the country’s legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also hopes to see Kohli-Rohit as the openers for India in the T20 World Cup to be held on Indian soil in October-November.

In an interview with an Indian TV channel, Gavaskar said, “The best batsmen in limited-overs cricket should play the most. Kohli’s decision to start the innings with Rohit is correct. I think we’ve got an opening pair that could be useful in the future. It will be good for India if these two openers come down in the next World Cup.”

The Kohli’s show might get vigorous this time as he is going to get more time on the pitch and balls to be faced. His fans are waiting for this. Only time will say whether he is correct with the decision or not.
