Before the start of the Asia Cup, a big shock in the Sri Lankan camp.
Sri Lankan star pacer Dushmantha Chameera has suffered an ankle injury for quite some time. Still, the selectors of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board did not give up hope. He was kept in the Asia Cup team. But where is the benefit? The right-handed pacer had to be dropped from the squad two days after the team’s announcement.
A member of the Sri Lanka team management told Cricinfo “Chameera got injured three-four days ago. He will not be able to recover for the Asia Cup. Chameera’s injury was on the ankle, and now it has reached the cuff”.
Instead, Nuwan Thushara got a chance on the team. But with Chameera’s ruling out, the Lankan pace department suffered a major blow. Kasun Rajitha and Binura Fernando have already been eliminated. As a result, the Lankans will have to fight for continental excellence like the Asia Cup with an inexperienced pace attack.
Among the pacers in the squad, only Asitha Fernando is experienced. Pacer Thushara has played only 4 T20 matches. Pramod Madushanka played only one ODI match. Besides, Dilshan Madushanka and Matheesha Pathirana are yet to make their international debut.
Sri Lanka will play their first match against Afghanistan on August 27. Bangladesh is one of their opponents in Group B.
