BAN vs AFG (Match 03) – Highlights
Shakib Al Hasan could not win his 100th T20I match. The red-green team battled to the end against Afghanistan in their first match of the Asia Cup in Sharjah on Tuesday (August 30) but lost by 7 wickets.
Chasing the target of 128 runs set by Bangladesh, Afghanistan won with 9 balls in hand. As a result of this victory, Mohammad Nabi’s team has qualified for the Super Four of the Asia Cup as the first team. In the previous match, they beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets.
Bangladesh initially fought hard to defend the total they could secure but got cornered in the end. Captain Shakib struck first in the Afghan camp. Then Mosaddek Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin, who returned from injury, got wickets respectively.
Shakib came into the attack in the first over of the second innings. Afghan openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were not given a chance to open their hands on his over. There was also the possibility of a runout. In the end, there was no danger but only 2 runs came in the first over made by the Bangladesh captain.
Shakib was going to bowl consecutively in search of a wicket. Success finally came in hand, Shakib sent back Gurbaz when he bowled his third over. Gurbaz, who got life in the previous over, wanted to come out of the crease on a low delivery. But he did not manage to reach the ball. Mushfiq did not make a mistake behind the wicket, the Afghan opener scored 11 runs from 18 balls before being stumped.
Hazratullah Zazai was giving a glimpse of the storm. But Mosaddek brought back the devastating opener before he became terrifying. Zazai was lbw after he missed the ball of Mosaddek. The Afghan star could not survive with the reviews later, he was back scoring 23 off 26 balls. The Afghans lost their second wicket for 45 runs.
Saifuddin sent Mohammad Nabi back to the pavilion. That was the last wicket picked up by Bangladesh on the day. Then Ibrahim Zadran and Najibullah Zadran’s stormy innings offered the bitterness of defeat to the red-green representatives. Ibrahim remained unbeaten on 42 off 41 balls.
On the other hand, Najibullah played an unbeaten stormy innings of 43 runs off 17 balls for the team. He had 1 four and 6 sixes in this innings. Shakib, Mosaddek, and Saifuddin took one wicket each for Bangladesh.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and batted first, they lost 7 wickets to score 127 runs. Although the first five batters failed, Mahmudullah and Mosaddek finally got a fighting capital for the Tigers. In the 16th over of the innings, Mahmudullah got out with a great diving catch of Ibrahim Zadran at deep midwicket while sweeping Rashid Khan while trying to play a slog. He scored 25 runs off 27 balls in 1 boundary.
On the other hand, Mosaddek left the field after playing an unbeaten innings of 48 runs in 31 balls, hitting 4 fours and a six. In the end, Mahedi Hasan scored 14 runs off 12 balls with the help of 2 fours. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan took 3 wickets each for Afghanistan. Where Mujeeb spent only 16 runs in 4 overs to pick up this wicket.
Tomorrow, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will meet each other at the Dubai International Cricket Ground on a mission to reach the Super Four as the second team from Group B.
