Aussies to tour Pakistan after 24 years for a full series

The Australian cricket team will tour Pakistan in March 2022 after 24 years. The news was confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a statement. The full schedule of the tour of Australia has also been announced by the PCB. The Aussies will play three Tests, three ODIs, and a T20I in the full tour.

This time Australia’s tour will start with a Test match. The 1st Test will be played on March 3 in Karachi. The second Test will be taking place in Rawalpindi on March 12 and the last match of the Test series will be played in Lahore from March 21.

The ODI series will start on March 29 and the next two matches will be played on March 31 and April 2. Australia will end its tour of Pakistan on April 5 with the only T20I match. All the matches of the ODI and T20I series will be played in Lahore.

All three matches of this tour’s Test series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship. On the other hand, ODI series matches will be considered as part of the ICC men’s World Cup Super League. So the whole Aussie tour has an extra significance.

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja said that he is excited to welcome Australia to Pakistan. From his personal point of view, it is a great pleasure that there will be three Test matches. He added that the visit of the Aussies to the country after 24 years, which is going to be a great pleasure for the fans of the country.

Nick Hockley, the Cricket Australia (CA) chairman also disclosed that they will work over the next 3 months, and planning to conduct an [reconnaissance] over Pakistan. A CA delegation will be visiting Pakistan to meet with the officials of PCB, to discuss and finalize team operations, security, logistics, and Covid-19 guidelines. Nick Hockley mentioned that the safety and well-being of the players and staff will come first.

The last time Australia visited Pakistan was in 1998-99, and the series is famous for Mark Taylor’s epic undefeated 334 in Peshawar. Australia won the series 1-0. Pakistan then played their 4 home series against Australia overseas. The first of those was taking place at Colombo and Sharjah in 2002, followed by in England in 2010, and UAE in 2014 and 2018.
