Aussies to defend crown on home soil; 7 host venues announced for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022

Australia has defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday to become the champions for the first time. The ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2022 schedule was released by the ICC on Tuesday even though the heat of the last edition isn’t over.

335 days after this year’s final, the next edition of the T20 World Cup is going to be held on the defending champions’ home ground. ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will start on 16 October 2022. A total of 45 matches of the tournament will be held at seven venues. The seven venues are Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, and Perth.

Round 1 will be played with eight teams in 2022, just like the recently concluded event. Later, the Super 12 match will be played with the four teams selected from there and the top 8 teams in the ICC T20I rankings.

The 12 teams playing in the Super 12 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will directly participate in the World Cup 2022. The top eight teams in the rankings – Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, India, England, South Africa, Pakistan, and Afghanistan – will play directly in the Super 12 of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

Round 1 will be played with Sri Lanka, West Indies, Namibia, and Scotland, who took part in the Super 12 of World Cup 2021. Four more teams will make it into the first round after playing the qualifiers. The T20 World Cup qualifiers will be played in Oman in February 2022 and Zimbabwe in June-July.

The 1st semi-final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will be played on November 9 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The 2nd semi-final will roll on the field on November 10 at the Adelaide Oval. The final match of the tournament will be played on November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
