Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne has risen to the top of the ICC Test Batting Rankings for the first time in his career after a stellar performance in the first two Tests of the current Ashes series. Labuschagne is now at the number one spot with 912 rating points. England captain Joe Root is now at number two in the rankings with 897 rating points.
Labuschagne started the Ashes series staying at the number four position in the batting rankings. Playing an innings of 74 runs in the Brisbane Test, he rose to the second spot in the rankings. He scored 103 and 51 in two innings in the second day and night Test in Adelaide. That’s why the top position for the Aussie middle-order batter has been confirmed. Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, and Rohit Sharma are still in 3rd, 4th and 5th position in the points table respectively.
His teammate Mitchell Starc is back in the top ten of the Test Bowling Rankings. The pacer took 6 wickets for 80 runs in the second Test, of which four came up in the first innings. As a result of this performance, Starc has now risen to ninth place in the rankings. As usual, Pat Cummins, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shaheen Afridi, Tim Southee, and Josh Hazlewood are at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively in the standings.
On the other hand, Pakistan captain Babar Azam has regained the top spot in the ICC T20I Batting Rankings. Just a week ago, he dropped to third place in the rankings. But in the third and final T20I against the West Indies, Babar played an innings of 79 off 53 balls and is now at the top with 805 rating points, equal to Dawid Malan of England.
Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman and Babar’s teammate, Mohammad Rizwan is now in the third position in the T20I Batting Rankings with 798 rating points. The wicketkeeper-batsman also became the Player of the Match after playing a devastating innings of 87 off 45 balls in the third and final T20I against the Caribbeans. Aiden Markram (South Africa) and KL Rahul (India) are at 4th and 5th place respectively in the points table.
