Alok Kapali retires from first-class cricket

Once an indispensable player in the national team, he scored his first hat-trick for Bangladesh in a Test against Pakistan in Peshawar on 29 August 2003. On the same date in 2022, former national team leg spin all-rounder Alok Kapali retired from first-class cricket.

Alok himself confirmed his retirement from first-class cricket from the verified Facebook page. In a Facebook status, he wrote, “This is my decision to give opportunities to youngsters to play first-class cricket and give time to family.”

He also wrote, “Playing first-class cricket since 2000-2001 season. Played Tests, ODIs, T20s for the national team. Thanks to everyone who helped me in this long journey.”

In 2002, he was called to the Bangladesh national team. He scored 584 runs with two half-centuries in 17 Tests. He took 6 wickets. Besides, he has played 69 ODIs and 7 T20s for the country.

Alok expressed hope to continue limited overs cricket despite retiring from first class cricket.

This cricketer also hopes to work for the development of cricket in Greater Sylhet.
