Babar Azam’s team somehow reached the final in the last T20 World Cup. But the end was not in their favor either. Pakistan became the runner-up in the World Cup after losing to England. Their supporters and former cricketers of that country have expressed their disappointment over the shaky performance of the team. The captain of the team Babar Azam did not perform as expected. His formlessness was palpable. Because of that, Shahid Afridi, the former captain of the country, asked Babar to leave the captaincy.

In an interview on TV show, Shahid Afridi said, “Babar’s team has cricketers like Shadab Khan, Rizwan. So, Babar can play freely.”

“I think he (Babar) has to take a tough decision. He has to give up the captaincy of the national T20 team. He needs to focus on his own batting. Let him captain Tests and ODIs.”

According to Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, Shan Masood deserve to be the captain of T20 format. Respecting Babar, Afridi said, “I respect Babar a lot. That’s why I don’t want him to take the pressure of captaincy in T20 cricket as well. I want him to fully concentrate on captaincy in the longest format of cricket.”

It is to be noted that, in 1992, Pakistan won the trophy by defeating England at this Melbourne Cricket Ground. Their supporters wanted history to be repeated. But there England won the trophy by beating Pakistan with sweet revenge for that loss.
