Adelaide Strikers have clinched an impressive 6-wicket victory with 8 balls in hand over Sydney Thunder in Match 9 of BBL 2022 at Adelaide Oval courtesy of Matthew Short’s blistering innings. Matthew Short was adjudged player of the match for his match-winning innings of 65 runs off 44 balls smashing 3 fours and 5 sixes.
Sydney Thunder captain Chris Green won the toss, elected to bat first, and sent the Adelaide strikers to bowl. Sydney Thunder lost 5 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs and collected a fighting score of 150 runs.
Sydney Thunder’s opener Alex Hales got the team off to a flying start by scoring 39 runs in 4 overs of Power Play 1. His partner, another opener Matthew Gilkes scored only 3 runs out of these 39 runs. When Gilkes returned to the dressing room, T20 specialist batsman Rilee Rossouw came to the wicket. But he also could not perform well yesterday. Rossouw got out after scoring 14 runs off 13 balls.
Oliver Davies and Hales continued leading the team towards big scores after Rossouw departed for the team’s 64 runs. These two put on a partnership of 63 runs for the third wicket. Adam Hose played an unbeaten innings of 28 runs off 20 balls. Nathan McAndrew scalped the maximum number of 2 wickets and Gurinder Sandhu 1 wicket for Sydney Thunder.
Adelaide Strikers is now at the top of the points table with three consecutive wins in three matches. On the other hand, Sydney Thunder is 6th in the points table with one win and three losses in four matches.
