3 players you can pick as captain or vice-captain for WBBL 2020 1st semi-final: Melbourne Stars vs Perth Scorchers

WBBL 3

Meg Lanning

The Australian women’s cricket team’s captain is also at the helm of the Melbourne Stars’ affairs. Throughout the competition, the right-handed batter has been in sublime form, scoring 484 runs in 13 league games at an average of 45.80.

Lanning had the task of scoring the bulk of the runs for the Melbourne Stars, opening the batting along with Elyse Villani.

Fresh off her knock of 77 runs in the last league game from 59 balls against the Sixers, Lanning will look to lead from the front and help the Stars storm into the competition finals for the very first time.

Natalie Sciver

In the T20 leagues across the globe, Nat Sciver is one of the most sought after players. With 18 wickets in 12 league games, the 28-year-old is currently the leading wicket-taker in this year’s WBBL.

The right-handed medium pacer has helped the Melbourne Stars pick up wickets at regular intervals by putting years of experience and exposure at the international level to full use.

This season, with her one-handed blinder at the backward stage, Sciver has caught a lot of eyeballs and is a serious contender for winning the tournament catch. Combined with her ability to bowl with the new ball, her hard-hitting batting style makes her one of the competition’s most valuable players.

Beth Mooney

In the past couple of seasons, Beth Mooney was one of the most reliable performers for the Australian team. Plying her trade in this year’s WBBL for the Perth Scorchers, Mooney was the top runner in the tournament with 524 runs at an average of 58.22 in 13 league games.

Mooney went on to become the first player to cross 3000 runs in WBBL history, en route to her knock of 60 off 48 balls against the Adelaide Strikers.

In the knockout phases of the WBBL, the 26-year-old has a knack for delivering some unique innings, and the Scorchers will hope that tomorrow is no different. In the final year of last year, she was instrumental in chasing down a massive sum for the Brisbane Heat against the Adelaide Strikers.

Mooney was also instrumental in helping Australia post a massive total in the finals of the recently concluded Women’s World T20 against India alongside her exploits in the WBBL, scoring a well-compiled 78 runs in the first innings.
