After Yuvraj Singh, Sanju Samson is someone who can hit sixes consistently with ease: Sanjay Bangar

Sanjay Bangar picked Sanju Samson as the most consistent six-hitter after the legendary Yuvraj Singh. India’s former batting coach compared Samson’s ability to hit sixes with ease to that of Yuvraj.

Interestingly, Bangar didn’t pick the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, or even Rinku Singh. Rohit has the most number of sixes in international cricket for an Indian batter. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is one of the few batters in the international game who can hit sixes by playing orthodox shots.

Suryakumar Yadav is on the opposite end of the spectrum as he can hit maximums all around the park. Rinku Singh, on the other hand, became a household name after belting Yash Dayal for five consecutive sixes in the last over of an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans to win the match.

Samson, however, has been in fine form in T20Is of late. He scored three centuries in the latter half of 2024 and entertained cricket enthusiasts across the globe. In 37 T20Is, the Kerala cricketer has registered 66 fours and 46 sixes.

“Glad to see the kind of success that he has been blessed with currently. He has been there for a long time. It’s just that he has got the right opportunities and a good run of opportunities because every batter, if he is playing three or four matches in a row, that frees him a little bit,” Sanjay Bangar said on Star Sports.

“Batting up the order, he doesn’t really have to worry about the situation. The field is up and he is a six-hitter. He can hit sixes with ease. After Yuvraj Singh, if there is one batter who can do it with such ease on a consistent basis, it has to be Sanju Samson. So just to see him firing on all cylinders is a treat to watch,” he added.

Samson has been picked in India’s squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England. The first match is set to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22.
