Tahlia McGrath ‘really impressed’ with talent and potential in Indian women’s cricket

Australia A women’s team captain Tahlia McGrath lauded some of the talented players in the India A team after winning a 3-0 clean sweep in the T20 series in Brisbane.

Australia had to dig deep in the first game to register a five-run win. The second and third games, however, saw McGrath and Co. asserting their dominance to win by eight and seven wickets, respectively. McGrath heaped praise on Priya Punia, who finished as the second-highest run-getter in the series, scoring 116 runs from three matches at an average of 38.66 and a strike rate of 112.62. The Aussie all-rounder also lauded right-arm pacer Meghna Singh and left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque.

“Priya is a really good batter and I’m pretty sure she was over here for her last India A-series as well. And then you look at the likes of Meghna Singh is an outstanding bowler and Ishaque, great spin bowler,” McGrath told the media after Australia’s series win.

McGrath also admitted that she is a fan of 20-year-old Shweta Sehrawat, who didn’t have a great campaign with the bat has has all the ingredients to become a superstar for India in the years to come as per McGrath.

“I’ve been really impressed with some of the Indian A-girls. I’ve come across a lot of them in the WPL before, played with probably four of them. I’m a big fan of Shweta. I think she’s a really good talent and I’ve loved seeing her over here in Australia,” McGrath noted.

In just two seasons, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has unearthed many talented youngsters who can take Indian Women’s Cricket to greater heights. McGrath, who has plied her trade in the cash-rich league, asserted that it has helped in increasing the rate at which the players have developed their skills.

“The WPL has fast-tracked the development of many Indian players, and their growth is evident. It’s exciting to see how quickly they’ve adapted and improved,” McGrath stated.

Australia A and India A will now lock horns in three 50-over matches in Mackay on August 14, 16, and 18. This will be followed by an unofficial Test, which will be held in Gold Coast, starting August 22.
